Lots of drama… the good kind.

7261 E Ventana Canyon Drive

List Price: $1,399,000

Now this is an interesting house. The exterior alternates between brutalism inspired geometric concrete forms and sweeping vistas of clean lined glass. Dramatic touches throughout the home echo the clean lines of glass and the simple geometric forms. Even the entryway juts out dramatically, drawing the eye and inviting visitors.

The entry foyer is open and the split level adds even more interest and drama. Like most of the house, it is flooded with natural light and simultaneously feels open and so solid it’s almost heavy.

The weak point unfortunately is the kitchen. After all the drama and excitement the lackluster dark and cramped kitchen’s mediocrity is disappointing. It only takes a step outside to renew the spark, however, with a well designed landscape and appropriately dramatic pool.

Indoor Pool

5764 N Camino Miraval

List Price: $750,000

I am an avid swimmer – even in the blinding heat of summer or the chill of winter I will find excuses to take at least a quick dip once a week – and so a nifty pool has always been a weak spot for me. You will excuse me then if I get a little excited and say that I WANT THIS HOUSE!

I keep reminding myself that the landscaping is just this side of insipid and that for some unfathomable reason the kitchen is ridiculously outdated and of poor quality in comparison to the rest of the house. I even try to keep the awkward curbside view of the front of the home in mind, but it just wont help. I even wince thinking of the sloppy amoeba shape pool nestled inside the clean sharp lines of the pool area. (Really pool designer? Of all possible shapes, why that one?)

The problem is, even if you are not a huge fan of pools, there is just no denying that amazing master bath or the sleek and sexy public great room with it’s glass wall and panoramic view.

Living Room

5215 N Mount Lemmon Short Road

List Price: $409,900

What better way to start off this blog than with a curvy winding romp through this charming home. It’s not the Casa Milà but sweeping forms proliferate inside. From built-in beds to pod like showers the many touches maintain a consistently organic feeling.

The home is nestled into the base of the mountains, as the street name suggests, and has a very broad view. The area is fantastically quiet and private (about as far northeast as you can get).

The catch, while it is in good condition the home is 26 years old and depending on your aesthetic viewpoint in need of cosmetic updates.

Still, for $410,000 this home is very exciting…
